Here's a trick we use building lumber storage buildings. Cut a piece of valley tin the width of your floor joist and the length, then marry the sister joist to the existing joist with the tin in the center. This may reduce the width of the sister joist needed and becomes very resistant to downward forces. Put in plenty of screws along the length of the joist. Of course consult a engineer for building code information. Hope this helps
