You did a beautiful job with that house! The move must have been quite an experience.
I love those large old homes. I used to renovate houses in New Orleans, which has plenty of great old homes. Every one is a surprise -- many were built using "barge boards" -- wooden barges were used to transport goods down the river, and after the goods were unloaded the barges were taken apart and used to build homes. The barge boards were made of many different types of wood, but often cypress, and they could be 24 inches wide or more, 2-3 inches thick, and 20 feet long. The grain in that old growth wood is beautiful and it was always a nice surprise find barge boards underneath the siding or plaster.
Anyway, I know that you've had lots of surprises with your house, spent boatloads of money, and no doubt you are getting lots of pleasure spending hours sitting on your porches.
Good luck and thanks for hanging out on the board.
