Yo Tony , I took out a bearing wall in my kitchen and used a 'Glulam' beam ordered from my lumber yard . The folks at Georgia Pac. helped me size it 1-800-221-BEAM or 1-800-423-2408 ( I can't remember which # I called ). I just gave them my measurements and they told me the size beam required. I built temp. walls and let in the beam . Only 1 1/4 " remains exposed .
