bathtup caulk

I'm tired of redoing my tub caulk. We use the shower exclusively, and the new caulk has let go the last 4 times I've replaced it. It gets gummy and cracks and never dries completely. The first time I used caulk strips. The next 2 times I used Dap bathtub caulk. I let the stuff dry the first time for about 30 hours. The second time at least 36 if not 40 hours. Same thing, turned gummy around the faucet area and along the long side of the tub in the immediate shower area. I'm letting the shower dry now, as I write this, letting papertowels absorb the damp, before trying it again. We also considered putting a fan in the bathroom for a few hours. What can I do to get this caulk to set up?
