Neil,

I recently removed a bathtub in a remodel of my bathroom. The first method I tried to remove the drain was to insert the handles of a pair of channellock pliers into the drain and use a second pair of pliers to try to unscrew the drain. When this did not work, I used a roto-tool with a cutting wheel to cut the inside of the drain assembly. By the way, the roto-tool worked great on my rusted toilet bolts as well.

Good luck,

Matt
