I want to remove a pole in my basement that helps hold up an 8" tall by 6" wide iron beam. There are two beams each 24' long that meet at the ends directly where this pole is that I want to remove (which span a total of 48'). The next nearest poles are 12' in each direction from the one I want to remove. The new span would be 24' long. What do I need to do to reinforce the existing beam so I can remove this one pole?
