I just bought a home that is about 50 years old. I just noticed that it has some horizontal cracks on 2 of the walls. Furthermore, I have been getting some water in my basement.
My question is: are all horizontal cracks damaging and a sign of repair? Also, the water never comes in by or underneath these cracks? However, the room is refinished, so could there be cracks behind the wood. But when it rains, the water doesn't seem to make any of the wood wet, just the floor along the edges and once again, not near the horizontal cracks? Do I have an expensive problem or is this normal?
