Basement Floor - Insulating

Posted by Gerry Matthews on June 19th, 2000 07:15 AM

I live in Southern Ontario Canada. I have a new home/bungalow with a walkout basement. Basement size is approx. 1500 sq ft. The poured basement floor is one month old.
I want to finish the basement - and am considering a sub-floor - strapping + 1/2" plywood [then, underlay & carpet}.
How is the strapping laid ? End-to-end 12" apart so each space is dead air OR 12" spacing with some space at ends so air circulates under the plywood ?

OR, is there a better/new way ? I thought I saw a TV show in the recent past which spoke of a new product for insulating basement floor but I really wasn't paying attention at the time.

Thanks for your help.
