basement floor cracks and lifting

Posted by anonnymouse on November 16th, 1999 09:10 PM

A friend has a 33 year old brick ranch with a full
basement. There are cracks in the basement floor, and the
linoleum on the floor in one section is lifting, and the
floor under it is lifting...3-4 inches. She had some-one
come out and they said something about "pirex" (not sure
of spelling), and told her to call her insurance co.
The insurance company said it's not covered. She had
water in the basement a few years ago, and had the
drain tiles replaced in a section of the house. She
was told it was not a water problem, but that there was
mold under the floor. But mold comes from moisture and
darkness, doesn't it? Why would her floor crack and
come up like that? Someone told her it would be a
10-12 thousand dollar repair job. What should she do, and
who should she call for help??
