I have a two story cape with full basement. We are remodeling in the basement to install a child's playroom and want to install carpeting over the concrete. The only two options we see as valid are either installing carpet directly over the cement (we are concerned about padding getting wet so we are thinking of carpet directly glued to the floor. Or, we are considering installing a subfloor consisting of metal furring strips with rigid insulation in between and a vapor barrier underneath a plywood subfloor. There are no indications of wetness in the basement in the four years we have been here. Our main concern is what is the best way to handle any potential moisture and would the subfloor allow mold or moisture to grow. Sorry for the long post, but we would like to make the right decision.

Thanks for any help....
