basement brick problem

Posted by J Carlsen on August 28th, 2000 08:52 PM

My house was built in 1922. The basement is a full size built with red brick. I bought my house from the City of Kenosha, Wi. in 1995, who at that time had remodeled the beautiful old home. I have a problem with water (under one stair going into the basement and one area of the back room) and mold and mineral deposits on the wall. The neighbors informed me that at one time the basement bricks seemed to be caving in. When the City remodeled the home they put up a surrounding wall in front of the old brick throughout the entire basement (without fixing the brick problem). I spent many hours and much waterproof paint trying to improve this basement and build a room for my 2 kids for playing in.
Is there any product to remove mineral deposits?
Do you think I could ever have a furnished basement?
