Are you thinking of electric baseboards? There are a whole lot of other things to consider...first, how well insulated the basement is -- esp. the ceiling, since without that all your heat will go up to the first floor. Second, you may want to check out how much a plumber will cost you to run hot water/air baseboards from your existing heating system. In the long run, it may be less costly to do this, since electric baseboards can be expensive to maintain. Is the basement already zoned on your current system? Also, there are other considerations -- like how big is the space you wish to heat, where are you located (electric heaters in Florida will cost less than electric heaters in Maine), etc.
