Barn Door Painting

Posted by Ed on February 24th, 2001 03:40 PM

Many barns in my area of Michigan are painted red with white trim.

The doors are also trimmed in white, but the top of the rectangular doors are painted in the form of an arch to give the doors an arched or domed appearance.

Anyone know how this unusual practice came about, and why it is perpetuated? It obviously takes a lot more effort to add this painted detail to the doors.
