Baluster spacing

Hi, Paul. Baluster spacing is now a code issue and I believe the rule is that you must not be able to get a 4" diameter ball between them at any point. This is to keep a baby from getting its head in between and choaking. You might want to check with your building inspector to be sure that it is 4" and not 3" since I don't remember exactly. Anything that is there is "grandfathered" but any new revision requires meeting the code. Even if you don't live in an area where codes are strongly enforced, the code is there for a reason and it just makes sense to follow it.
