I have a bad odor (sewage type) that comes and goes. My house was built in 1960 and I have 2 bathrooms. Mostly I notice it in the front yard area (the side of the house that has the 2 bathrooms). The only time I smell the odor in the house is when I turn on the whole house fan. However, I cannot smell any odor in the crawlspace either. I am on public sewer. I turned off the sprinklers for several days to look for any wet area in the yard and there were no wet areas. So there goes the broken pipe theory. After reading the stories of other people who have had sewer-smell type odors (and calling plumbers who say the problem is fixed- and then it isn't), I'm not sure what I should do next. Is there a valve in the sewage lines that might not be closing? Is there a problem with a vent on the roof?
