Backyard Dilemma

We had a sycamore tree in our front yard that had to be taken down and also had the stump and major roots ground down.
Grass didn't take very well and evidently two things occurred... (1) the soil is fairly acidic and (2) the decomposition of the chips put a large demand on available nitrogen in the soil.
Try a high-nitrogen fertilizer and with sufficient lime (preferrably granular for gradual release).
