Backer board vs. Floor Leveler

Posted by Terry Love on July 9th, 1998 03:05 PM

Hi. Brand new to the list. I hope someone can help.
I recently decided to remove the carpet in the guest
bathroom and replace it with 12x12 ceramic tile.

When I removed the carpet, I found bootprints and many other
imperfections. I called a repair service and the guy told
me that he would need to grind the concrete so he could lay tile.

For grinding and tile of 50 square ft, and setting the toilet...he
wanted $550. I am considering doing it myself.

Questions...Can I use a floor leveling product to fix the imperfections
or can I put down concrete backer board? Which is easier? Do I need to
adhere the board to the existing concrete.

Any answers out there? I am a novice!
