attic to loft

Posted by Bryan on January 30th, 2001 02:12 AM

hello all! I hope some of you can give me some in sight
on this subject.I own an old little 2 bedroom house
25x25 roof pitch is about 7/12 giving me about 6'9" of
head room in the attic. Now here is my situation my wife
and I have 4 kid and 2 rooms we have out grown this
tiny house. So I would like to convert the attic in to a
bedroom seeing we arn't in the market for a new one.
Can I do this the right way with the 2by4 rafters that
exist, because I now I will need to insulate and allow
vent room right? (wich I am not sure of how to do,I do no
the sofit can vent and is that it?) I am not to worried
about the floor of the attic seeing I have plenty of
interior wall that will support the main floor
ceiling/attic floor.Or would it be wise to biuld
another floor over the ceiling joists to avoid re running
all the wiring? Another thought is the stairs what is
the proper pitch or rise or does this matter? As for
the lighting would track light be the way to go with
conduit ran from the eletrical source to the lights?
Or is this all a big wast of time? Any other though
or concerns please let me no before this is to late.
The attic walls ect. Please help me out my house and
kids would appreciate it.
thank you all Bryan
