I would like to create storage space in the attic with pull down steps leading to the attic. I would like to install these steps in the hallway. My joists run across the hallway so I would need to cut through 3 joists to create the 54 inch opening. I have conventional rafters, not trusses. I think my ceiling joists are 2x8 or10s. Would I be better off looking for a spot in a room where I could install parrell to joists and just cut one, or is cutting 3 in the hallway not such a big deal? Thanks.
