Hi Greg

Yes. With only a 6' span, 2 X 6's on 16" centers should be fine. However, you will have to keep these separate from your existing 2 X 4 ceiling joists for the floor below. I'd shim the ends up 1/2" or so (on the top plates they will be resting on) to make sure that over time, they don't sag down and start downward deflecting your ceiling below. Also, make sure you run all your wiring before you put the new subfloor down, to include exhaust fans, new room lights, new wall outlets, etc, etc. Think strategic! **smile**
