Are you sure the wall isn't load bearing? If there is any load on the wall, removing it could be disaster.
Once you're sure about the walls real purpose structurally, move all the furniture out of the room, pull up the carpet (or cover it with a dropcloth), and get a big hammer, some leather workgloves, crowbar, and wonderbar, 5 gallon buckets, etc. Prepare yourself for the use of a lot of brute force. Removing a wall isn't as fun as building one.
