yourself vs. the builder? that is what I assummed when you said removal of face plate, which was only a solid plate covering a box/location wired for a phone jack. if so..then you need to remove one of the exising phone jacks that were prewired to see which wires in the box are connected to the green and red terminals on the phone jack. the rest of the wires are spares and can be left alone in the box. and to connect the proper pair of wires onto the phone jack ,,you do not have to strip insulation off the wires before inserting into the notches .. the notch should bite through the insulation/coating as you stated. hope this helps LJ
