My husband and I would like to put a cedar shake roof (fire-resistant) on our home, but we have a couple questions:
1) I believe there are already two layers of shingles on our roof. Can we put a shake roof on over two layers of existing shingles, or do we need to complete rip off the old roof?
2) Our house is about 1600 square foot. Can one person put on the shake roof (without ripping off the old roof) in one week? Is this considered an extremely difficult job? Should we consider hiring someone, or could my husband do it by himself in one week?
3) We live in an older sub-division. Would the shake roof increase the value of our home? We want to use shake because of the texture and dimensions, also because no-one else in our subdivision has a shake roof. What do you think?
I appreciate any responses you have. Thank you for your time!
