Anytime you put a hole in your roof....

the very realistic event will at some time happen, it will leak.

Think of all the alternatives to a hole in the roof. If you want more light and natural light, could you lighten the paint color, use semi gloss and use different modes of window shades, remove some vegatation that is blocking the light. These things will not cause the intrusion of unwated water in the house.

If you decide to add another hole in the roof, make sure its someone who REALLY knows what they are doing and also using good products that have a reputation for NOT leaking.

Skylights or windows, can let in light, but they can also leak, cloud over with tree sap, dirt, and just UV problems that render them in op. I have seen them crack due to a hail storm and cause all sorts of water damage that WOULD not have happened if the hole was not there.

Just be sure and check out the alternatives out there in the market place other than breaking the integrity of the principal of the roofs purpose.
