If you're going to use a roof mount antenna get what is known as a "log periodic Yagi-Uda "

Straight Yagi - Uda antennas get crappy reception at higher frequencies. The only difference between the log and straight is that the spacing of the "directors" on the log antenna follow a logarithmic distancing while the straight are all the same distance.

These are nothing new, the "mulitple finger with a tail" antenna that has been around for decades upon decades is the Yagi antenna, not many people know what they are called though.
