I also have a system that pumps about every 10
minutes. My backup is water powered, which
assumes you have "city water" rather than a
well/pump. Works beautifully. Mine pumps one
gallon of sump water for every 7 gallons of
house water, which is a lot of water, but better
than a flooded basement. My experience with
pump lifetime is about 2-3 years. I now pull
mine about every year, install a standby, and
have the pump professionally cleaned/refurbished.
