The water is coming from high humidity in the air for which the a/c acts as a dehumidifier as it cools. If this is a window unit, many are made to hook up a garden hose for a drain away from the foundation. If this is a whole house a/c, it will still have a drain at the pan and probably a drain pipe coming from it.

They all collect crud and plug up hence the need to clean them periodically.
