I had thought of installing a ventless fireplace in my nearly 50-year old ranch home, but after researching reader comments here, I've thought twice about it (the health & condensation problems were good points & of particular concern). My problem is that there is no easy way to vent to the chimney from our living room. The chimeny's on the other side of the house, & if we moved the fireplace to the only other available wall in the room, the attached garage is on the other side. I'd really like a fireplace for a heating alternative, as we had some wicked ice/wind storms last year in the Buffalo area that caused power to be out for days in teens-20 degree weather. Any thoughts on alternative fireplace or ducting solutions would be greatly appreciated.
