david,dishwasher should attach to 5/8 verticle section on air gap,the 7/8 portion that comes off air gap at 45 degree angle goes in your garbage disposer 7/8 hose from air gap to garbage disp. should not sag or it can cause water to come back through air gap as for the dishwasher drain line being 7/8 connection you can get 5/8 dishwasher hose cut 1 i/2 inch piece push it in the 7/8 drain hose and push it on the 5/8 portion of air gap and tighten with hose clamp.some dishwasher drain hoses rubber adapter on the end can be be cut down to three different sizes,read installation instruction.
