Air Conditioner Blowing Hot Air

Posted by Hot in SC on April 7th, 2001 09:51 PM

South Carolina got up into the 80s today. Adjusted the thermostat down to 75 and the central air conditioner began to blow out hot air. The unit is a GE BWE9481001B1 (?). Checked for a freeze-up but the unit is clear. The GE unit is about 25 years old and uses freon 22 - freon could be low but don't have a way to check it that I'm aware of. Any suggestions of other things to check?
Based on the age of the unit, does it make any sense to repair it? Any idea how much to replace? The house the unit is in has 3 floors and about 2800 sq.ft.

Any suggestions or responses are appreciated. Thanks
