Advice for painting stripes on wall?

I'm painting a room and my wife wants stripes on the walls. She saw a show home with painted stripes that were very sheer/translucent and she wants it in the nursery. The walls will be yellow (color is SW1683) and the stripes will be a couple shades lighter (SW1676). The stripes will run vertically from floor to ceiling and need to be about 4 inches wide. I need to put the deeper color on first, and then put on the lighter color very lightly so that the yellow shows evenly through the brush marks. I'm hesitant to use tape for a straight edge when doing the stripes because the walls are lightly textured and the paint would probably capillary under it. I'd greatly appreciate any advice on how to get the stripes on light, even, and straight.
Thanks very much for the help!
