Adding soundproofing to a townhouse wall

Posted by Jim Harrington on May 4th, 2001 09:47 PM

Do I have options for adding more soundproofing to a townhouse wall?

We live in a townhome built around 1987. The living room wall adjoins the living room wall of the adjacent townhome. In the last two years, we've noticed an increase in the noise we hear through the wall, especially the bass sounds from music.

I don't know if we just have noiser neighbors than before, or if something has changed in the house to let more noise through. Any suggestions are welcomed. I don't know what's behind the current drywall in the way of insulation.
