yes you can use a roller. these ceilings like to delaminate when they get wet though. they get extremely vulnerable once they absorb the moisture from the paint. use a thick nap roller and slightly thinned paint to reach into the texture, and once rolled, dont go back over it, or you may find the acoustic peeling off on your roller. if you miss spots or need better coverage, wait a day for it to dry before going over it again. I like to gently broom off the ceiling as part of the prep, to get rid of the stuff thats gonna fall later anyway. Also, use a pole, not a ladder. your paint is safer and easier to move on the floor, you get a better view of your work, the pole keeps you out from directly beneath your work.
