Simply use good safety practices you would with any strong household chemical such as draincleaner.Googles and rubber gloves are the main protective equipment needed. Use good ventilation in the area during application and mask off well, any surrounding surfaces that you don't want stained and remove any bare metal objects from the area( fumes will accelerate rust)
Your nose is a good indicator of fume strength. If the fumes are too irritationing, stop and ventilate better. Use a chemical resistant plastic pump up sprayer and apply as evenly as possible. Follow these tips with the manufacturer's instructions and you should be fine.
