The main ingredient in nail polish remover(unless otherwise specified) is acetone, a very srong solvent, if it did not make it to the wood or stain, then it could be possible to lightly sand the whole top and apply another coat of varnish. If this does not do it, some one else may have an idea but without seeing it I would think you would have to re-finish the top.
