The two coils can be replaced seperately, but neither one should need replacing unless it is leaking or badly stopped up. Your problem with the liquid not changing to a gas and giving up the heat it has picked up could be due to an overcharge of freon. Has anyone added freon lately?

If they are suggesting replacing the condensor unit they are talking about changing out the compressor also, an expensive job.

Hope this helps.
