There is a reversal valve that controls the direction of freon flow in the sealed system. This solenoid is controlled by the electronic control board which in turn is controlled by the thermostat.

Check the wiring between your thermostat and control board. If this is ok then anyone of the above parts could be bad. More than likely it would be the control board.
