Aaaaarrrrgggghhhhh, Wallpaper removal

Posted by Dee on September 9th, 2001 07:10 PM

We've decided to remodel our 26 year old home. We started with wallpaper removal. After contacting many people who said that they specialized in this, no one returned phone calls. I have been working for the last 6 weeks to take it down throughout the halls, upstairs and down, the kitchen and now the family room. I had two really horrible spots where I had to spackle quite a bit. Now that I'm close to finishing, I've discovered the family room had wallpaper over an area where a door had been (there's unfinished drywall underneath) and what appears to have been a heavy wallpaper backing from a prior papering. The paper came down even without DIF, but the backing is h*ll to take down. I've tried steam, more DIF and scrapping. This stuff doesn't want to budge. Besides replacing all the drywall or having to mud the entire wall does anyone have any other ideas? Is there anything other than the mud to put over uneven walls? Thanks, Dee
