A Suggestion ...

'dodgeman', one of the Follow-uppers on the Forum, would suggest you look into either going into the attic and placing diagional bracing from the gable wall to the ceiling joist. Or from roof rafter-to-roof rafter (crossing under the ridge line.) To say the latter in more layman terms, go into the attic and hold a 2x4 horizontally while standing under the highest point (the ridge) in the attic. Nail one end into a rafter that's on the RIGHT side of the ridge line, and nail the other end into a rafter on the LEFT side of the ridge line. Put in a few nails, not too close to each other. This may help stabilize the 'swaying' of the roof (if that's the source of the squeeking) in just that one direction. If the squeeking is due to swaying in the OTHER direction, than dodgeman's idea should help with that. (I don't have any 2x4's bracing the gable end to my attic floor.)

My best to ya and hope this helps.

Jay J
