"Slap Her Down Again, Pa" is not listed in the ASCAP data base meaning that it is probably traditional. I first heard it sung by the "hillbilly" singer Judy Canova sometime in the 30s. Canova, mother of the actress Diana Canova was of Spanish extraction and as genuine a hillbilly as Roy Rogers (Leonard Slye of Ohio) was a genuine cowboy. I also heard it sung by a late 40s country singer who called herself Esmeralda. The song shows sibling rivalry at its ugliest. A jealous younger sister sicks the father on her older sister for making out with a local boy and isn't satisfied with her getting only one hard smack.
