"soft" is subjective.....

What one feels is "soft" another may not. How are you defining "soft" water?

For example, growing up we had a water softener. There was always the "slick, slimey" feel when getting out of the shower. I have a softener in my house now (hardness is 25 grains). The shower still feels somewhat 'slick' but nowhere near what I remember as a kid. I've had the water tested and the hardness is gone.

Example 2: We've noticed a difference in dish soap. Some brands are "slipperier" than others.

Have the water tested - Sears does it for free. You may have a salt bridge, be out (or low) on salt, or the bypass valve may be on.
