"Sealing" Odors?

Posted by Louis on July 3rd, 2000 09:00 PM

I am buying a home where the previous owners had an issue with a cat that urinated all over the upstairs carpets. Obviously, we're going to replace the carpet, pad and tack strips. The home inspector speculated that there could be some damage to the sub-floor from the urine. If the damage is minor he suggested we could cover the stains with Kilz to "seal" any odors that might be present. The subfloor is stranded board, not plywood.

Can anyone comment on whether Kilz will have any benefit in this regard (and can I use the low odor version?) Is there something better that I can use for this?

Any information would be appreciated.
