Hi Tim, if you have looked down the board, other
people are also looking for lats say "premade beams"
but they can't be found.
so ok, you will have to make them, and this is how
its done....
now the mesurements here are only to explain ( to give
you an idea) of what it will look like,.
We are going to make a "U" box two sides will be 6"x1.1/2"
and another at 4"x1,1/2" and at the lentgh you require.
because you dont want to see the screws it will mean alittle
more work,, you will need a lath about 1"x1" cut this lath into
12" lentghs.
Now on one side of the 6x1.1/2 ( the not so nice looking side) draw
a line 2.1/2" from one edge, do this on both 6" planks, drill and
screw the lath to the plank, ( but dont go through the plank),
fix the lath (above the line ) about every 2ft, ...
So now you should have two planks that have laths running down it
remember that the 2.1/2" from the edge of the plank to the edge of the
lath is important,. now that you have done this on both planks
we will now turn to the other plank that you have which is 4" wide
now glue and screw the 4" plank in between the two 6" planks so you
have a half a "U" or "H" shape box.
You should now see about 1/2" of both side planks showing ( hanging
down), you are makeing it so obvious that you dont see that its not
beam, and its done deliberate, you can stain or paint it/them.
now to fix to the ceiling all you do is fix a 4" strip to the ceiling
and then fix the box to the strip, predrill first then use thin screws
because theses are the main beams, you can also make smaller ones that
go between them ( theses can be 4" x 2" useing the same system to make
them... any way best of luck. ,,,,John 2000
ps: its always better if you can stain them a little darker that the ceiling
then they stand out much better,..............
