Hi Steve,

I'm not an electrician but I've searched the WEB and am finding the same answers. Apparently, the hum is 'related' to the fan's capacitors and the switch. Read the links with regard to humming.

Hunter Fan Q + A, Fan/Switch Controls, and Ceiling Fan Tips (Item #4, I believe ...)

Consider printing out the last 2 WEB pages and bringing them w/you to the store. This way, when you try to explain your problem, and you're getting that blank stare from the Attendant, you'll have something they can read. My best to ya and hope this helps.
