Are knee braces really needed?

Posted by Eros (Ed) on November 11th, 2002 01:11 PM

I have had a patio cover built by a contractor who hired an architect to properly design it for load etc. I want to put "columns" around the upright posts (2) which are supported by (4)so called "knee braces" or corbels. How can I eliminate the braces so I can have the "columns" put around the posts? The architect has told the contractor that the "knee braces" must stay for support of the tile roof. I think or want to think that both the architect and the contractor are being overly cautious and don't want to be sued (not that I blame them) if the roof of the patio cover collapses.
