I just rewired our intertherm heater to attach to a 5 wire thermostat. it had the same heating/cooling switch on the furnace and a 2 wire thermostat which worked as follows: furnace switch in cooling mode-thermostat contacts open=air conditioner on, cooling mode-thermostat contacts closed=off, heating mode-thermostat contacts open=off, heating mode-thermostat contacts closed=heat on. I now have it wired so that the five wires are: 24 volt common, heating, cooling, fan, and ground. If i connect the appropriate wire to the 24 volt common its function will operate like cooling wire connected to 24 volt will turn on the condensing unit and the indoor blower.
