40x50 concrete slab

I want to pour a 40x50 slab, about 25 yards of concrete, which would involve 3 trucks, since each one carries a maximum of 10 yards of concrete. Here's my question...I am a very handy DIY and have been involved in concrete before. After the perimenter is formed up, could I not take steel lawn edging and sub-divide this slab into perhaps 4 sections 10 ft. wide x 50 ft. long? This would allow me to screed and bull-float slabs 10ft. wide instead of trying to do the whole thing. The steel edging is thin and would provide expansion gaps at the same time, at least in one direction. I could grove the other direction right after the pour. A local finisher quoted me $.55 ft. to finish this slab, to the tune of $1100. Any comments would be appreciated.
