Trying to replace a 3 way dimmer switch. Wires out of the box are 1 white and 2 red. Note that there was no ground on the 3 way dimmer switch that I am replacing.
The new 3 way dimmer has 1 black, 2 reds and a ground. I hooked the black to white and the 2 reds to red. I did however cut off the ground on the new switch on the basis that the old one didn't have a ground.
Once connected the light worked fine. Convinced all was well, I then wrapped everything up. After restoring power for the final time - the new switch doesn't work.
Reconnected the old switch and all is well. Could I have blown the new switch by cuttin off its ground??
