2 layers of shingles is perfectly fine, the extra weight is not a concern since you not actually placing 9000 pounds in one spot, if you hold 1 shingle in your hand and stack a second one on it you wont notice much difference thats the way your house will fell it also its distributed, i have founnd in the past also that 2 layers reduced my cooling costs in the summer because it waslike added insulation, i have seen houses with as many as 4 layers, 2 layers is perfectly fine
