I have a 1960s GE built in wall oven. It's brown and has a window in the door and it was original to the house, which I think was built about 1961. The best I can read off of the model number tag is something like:

J D14W2DC 3 8 E ? 8400 8

but the aluminum tag is pretty illegible, so there might be some mistakes there. The oven does not keep the right temperature, starting at the low range at about 400 and going up from there.

Therefore, I think the thermostat needs to be replaced, but since I haven't been able to figure out exactly what the model number is, it's hard to find.

Are there thermostats that could be substituted, or is it absolutetly necessary to get one specifically for this model?

So I am looking for a thermostat for this and also would like to know the model number. Thanks.
